About Us

Sealyons was established in 1997. It is an Irish owned family run business, with its roots deeply set in the family industry. Gearoid Lyons one of the owners and managing directors spent most of his life as skipper and owner to many different types of trawlers and fishing boats. He worked all around the Irish coast and abroad having fished and caught nearly all types of fish and shellfish that our waters have to offer.

With the downturn in the fishing industry Gearoid decided to get out and with the help of his two brothers Jim and Ken Lyons started growing and selling oysters from a site located near the outside pier in Carrigaholt, Co Clare. After a couple of years doing oysters the company took a different direction and Gearoid started buying and selling fish from the boats around Clare. Jim stayed growing oysters and Gearoid started the building of what was to become Sealyons Seafood Sales Ltd.

For a few years he bought and sold most of the white fish that was being caught in Clare, mainly spur dogs, cod, white Pollock and haddock. During the summer months Sealyons then bought wild salmon, crab and lobster from the boats fishing pots. A few of the local pubs and restaurants asked if we could supply them with the fish that was being landed locally so from there we started adding value to the bulk fish that we were sending out whole. As the demand grew we built a new building for processing the fish we were buying. Within a few years we were supplying restaurants and pubs and hotels throughout Clare and limerick.

We started to carry a wide range of different seafood products, fresh and frozen. We also started processing the local crab that was being landed and it wasn’t long before Sealyons had a name for excellent crab. During the summer months people could be found queuing up at the fish shop waiting for the next packet to be ready. As things changed in the industry and the wild salmon fishery was closed, we had to find new ways to replace lost revenue, we started branching out into the home delivery side of things in 2007.

Daniel started doing this on the quite days and slowly it grew as he built up a good customer relationship. Two years later we have vans doing home delivery in Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Kerry. We do a wide range of fish and poultry products packed in small quantities for the person at home. You can buy something for as little as €10 up to as much as you want to spend.
